Abstract

The topic of artificially lighted ski slopes analysed as an important part of the ski resorts’ product has not been so far presented neither in Polish nor international literature. Contemporary knowledge allows for the recognition of special popularity of this offer among citizens of Poland. The research attempts to analyse the reasons why Polish residents choose such an offer and how the use of this offer is integrated into their trips. Over 200 questionnaires were carried out via the Internet with people declaring that they would use the evening rides offer. The research results indicate more attractive prices and a smaller crowd on the slopes and queues for the lifts as the main reasons for choosing this offer. Among the proposed six forms of participation in a tourist trip, during which riding on illuminated routes is practiced, longer trips were chosen by the respondents slightly more often, but also shorter, one-day and several-hour long trips had a significant number of supporters, especially among people living relatively close to a ski resort. Among the respondents, there is a group of people who very rarely use illuminated routes in any form, and an another group of people who are very active and declare frequent participation in all proposed forms of trips. This group is undoubtedly the basis for attendance on illuminated routes, and a detailed understanding of the characteristics and preferences of its members is an important direction for future research.

The author of numerous publications on destination’s product marketing and competitiveness. The subject of his main interest is development of tourism in mountain areas with special regard to winter sports and hiking tourism.
