Abstract

This article presents casual work as one of the flexible forms of employment, which gains in popularity in the era of digital economy. Attention is given to benefits and threats related to this form of employment from the perspective of both employers and employees. This paper aims to present the selected case of casual work as a form of employment on the basis of a case study of a temporary employment agency HR Naviator. This company employs temporary workers and sends them to work abroad, mainly for German courier companies. The conducted research study allowed for determining the number of casual workers and their age structure, and employment periods for particular age groups. The results of the study indicate that applicants were mainly young males. Employee turnover is high, with the shortest time of employment recorded for the youngest group. Simultaneously, young workers were least inclined to take up jobs in the same place.

Joanna Kudełko, associate professor, head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development Programming at Cracow University of Economics. Author or co-author of many scientific publications. She conducts research work related to social and economic policy of the state, with particular emphasis on regional policy, urban policy, EU cohesion policy. She has experience in national and international scientific research projects.

Małgorzata Majewska-Madura, HR Navigator

Małgorzata Majewska-Madura, MA in Psychology (Jagiellonian University, Faculty of Philosophy and History, Department of Work Psychology and Ergonomics). She has many years of experience in the field of analysis, diagnosis and assessment of professional competences, in preparing and conducting trainings and coaching. She has the qualifications and certificates required to use all Thomas International psychometric tests. Professionally conducts recruitment projects for middle and senior management positions. She is interested in psychology of individual differences and the issues of tolerance, diversity and integration in business.

Monika Lipińska-Frydrych, HR Navigator

Monika Lipińska-Frydrych, MA in Political Science (Jagiellonian University, Faculty of International and Political Studies), BA in Journalism and Social Communication (WSiZ, Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences), participant of the doctoral seminar in the field of Social Communication and Media Sciences (WSiZ, Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences). She works professionally as a Senior HR Specialist for employee recruitment and development. In her research, she focuses on the critical analysis of new media discourse, and her professional interests include Employer Branding and corporate communication, with an emphasis on new media and social networks.

Dariusz Żmija, Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny w Krakowie, Katedra Polityki Ekonomicznej i Programowania Rozwoju

Dariusz Żmija, associate professor in the Department of Economic Policy and Development Programming at Cracow University of Economics. Author or co-author of many scientific publications.
