To better illustratethe development the defense shipyards sector in Europe, its distribution and individual branches, somecartographic research has been performed. This subject is the basis for further discussion on trends anddevelopments in the armaments industry, which can become a helpful notification for others who areinterested in the topic. Due to the position of Poland and the paper’s limited volume, the research topichas been narrowed down to the naval industry development of the countries of Europe. The secondnecessary limitation is that the manufacturers who produce heavy ships are taken into consideration,and those producers who have signed contracts for the supply of at least one army in Europe. Thereforeshipyards whose ships are only for sports, VIP, or supply smaller boats and pontoons or training shipswill not be taken into account here. Due to the large prevalence and classification to the chemical industrythe groups of manufacturers of ammunition for naval guns and manufacturers of missiles usedon ships will also be omitted. The analysis of the condition of the arms industry in shipbuilding will bebased on the current reports of research institutions, which focus on defense industry and arms control.This will allow for a final synthesis in the form of maps of shipbuilding defense industry in Europe,which is the main aim of this study.}, number={1}, journal={Studies of the Industrial Geography Commission of the Polish Geographical Society}, author={Wilczyński, Piotr L.}, year={2015}, month={Aug.}, pages={138–161} }
