Significantly vast territorial autonomy in the second halfof the 19th century influenced the development of sustainable socio-economic structures of the province.The fact that the changes occurred at the end of the 19th had a particular impact on the establishment ofstable spatial systems in Galicia. There were significant changes in the socio-economic development of theseterritories. In the following article authors work out the idea of spatial diversity of the dynamics of local developmentin the Malopolska region in relation to the theory of long-duration. The synthetic indicator of thedevelopment was constructed basing on the socio-economic criteria. The indicator was used for comparativeanalysis of the hierarchic structure of the development of Malopolska region between 1900 and 2002. Theanalysis is carried out on the basis of statistical data and GIS tools. The observed differences in growth weremainly due to the conditions of global political and economic changes, but they were transformed by localinstitutional conditions. The authors proved the stability of settlement structure of Malopolska region, a well as lowering rank of some centers - especially in the eastern part of the analyzed region and for the citiesassociated with mining industry. Krakow recorded the highest increase, along with the areas forming part ofthe urban zones and regions with tourist function.}, number={2}, journal={Studies of the Industrial Geography Commission of the Polish Geographical Society}, author={Dorocki, Sławomir and Struś, Paweł}, year={2017}, month={Jun.}, pages={7–25} }
